Rush

This style of weaving can be done with various materials. Fibre Rush is the least costly material and most popular. Fibre Rush resembles twisted paper-bag material. The old Rush was made from dried cat-tails that were twisted by hand, as the seat was being woven. I use a ready-made  twisted Sea Grass.

This seat is woven through holes drilled in the wooden seat frame. The material is called ratten cane, which is a vine that comes from the South Pacific. There are more than one design, the most common being illustrated here.

Hand Woven Cane Seat

For this type, the material is already woven, and the sheet is put into the chair as you would put in a window screen. There is a spline holding the webbing into place. The spline is a thin piece of wood.

Below are examples of most common types of seat weaving.

I am capable of using other materials, and in other styles.
